“Heb geen medelijden!”

De spanning stijgt binnen Heren I. Volgende week zaterdag is het eindelijk zover: de eerste wedstrijd in de hoofdklasse van de NGF-competitie. Dyon Lorist straalt als we hem spreken. Klaar voor de strijd? Zeker weten. Sterker nog, hij kan bijna niet wachten.

Focus op persoonlijk gameplan

“Maandag gaan we voorspelen op Broekpolder, waar we het opnemen tegen de Noordwijkse Golf Club,” begint Dyon. “Ik ken de baan wel, maar onderschat nooit hoe belangrijk het is om vooraf die 18 holes nog eens grondig te verkennen. Tijdens zo’n rondje zie je waar de kansen liggen, waar je risico’s kunt nemen en waar niet. Je merkt vanzelf welke holes je liggen en waar je slim moet spelen. Het is dé manier om je persoonlijke game plan te maken voor de wedstrijddag. Dat geeft rust én vertrouwen.”

Oefening baart kunst

Terugkijkend op de voorbereidingsperiode klinkt Dyon tevreden. “Ik werk fulltime als professional bij de Golfacademy. Het fijne is dat de meeste lessen in de ochtend en avonduren plaatsvinden, waardoor ik tussendoor zelf veel kan trainen.” En dat heeft hij dan ook vol overgave gedaan. “Deze winter heb ik me vooral gericht op mijn driving en chipping. Met de driver zocht ik het hetzelfde gevoel als ik met de ijzers heb. Je wilt in controle zijn en je techniek omzetten naar precisie in de baan. Datzelfde geldt voor het chippen waarbij voor mij de sleutel lag in het cleaner raken van de bal.”

Van plezier naar prestatie

Natuurlijk dringt zich de vraag op: waar droomt hij van? Dyon lacht. “Mijn vader zei altijd: als je ergens plezier in hebt, komt het resultaat vanzelf. En golf, ja, dat vind ik machtig mooi. Het kost me geen moeite om er zoveel tijd in te steken. Dus eerlijk: het zou geweldig zijn als dit ooit leidt tot deelname aan het profcircuit. Gelukkig krijg ik daarin steun vanuit de Golflounge en ANWB Golf. Voor nu is de NGF-competitie een mooie graadmeter om te zien waar ik sta.”

Advies voor medespelers

Voor we afronden, heeft Dyon nog een duidelijke boodschap voor al die ander leden die meedoen aan de NGF-competitie. “Wil je winnen? Verken die baan. Maak aantekeningen, stel je eigen game plan samen. Dat helpt je écht om je tegenstander net dat stapje voor te blijven.” En dan, met een grijns: “Heb geen medelijden. Grijp je kansen in de baan en sluit vriendschappen pas weer in het clubhuis.”

"Show No Mercy!"

The tension is rising within Men’s I. Next Saturday, it’s finally happening: the first match in the NGF Hoofdklasse competition. Dyon Lorist beams as we speak to him. Ready for battle? Absolutely. In fact, he can hardly wait.

Focus on a Personal Game Plan

"On Monday, we'll be playing a practice round at Broekpolder, where we’ll face the Noordwijkse Golf Club," Dyon begins. "I know the course well, but never underestimate how important it is to walk those 18 holes thoroughly beforehand. During that round, you see where the opportunities and dangers lie. You figure out where you can take risks, and where you shouldn't. You quickly notice which holes suit you and where you need to play smart. It's the perfect way to create your personal game plan for match day. And that gives you both calm and confidence."

Practice Makes Perfect

Looking back on the preparation period, Dyon sounds satisfied. "I work full-time as a professional at the Golfacademy. The great thing is, most of our lessons are in the mornings and evenings, leaving me plenty of time to train in between." And train he did, with full dedication. "This winter, I focused a lot on my driving and chipping. With the driver, I was chasing the same feeling I have with my irons—you want to be in control and translate your technique into precision on the course. The same goes for chipping; for me, the key was striking the ball cleaner, more efficiently."

From Passion to Performance

Of course, the big question is: what does Dyon dream of? He smiles. "My father always told me: if you enjoy something, the results will come naturally. And golf—well, I absolutely love it. It doesn’t cost me any effort to put in the hours. So honestly, it would be incredible if this all leads to competing on the professional circuit one day. Fortunately, I’m supported in that ambition by Golflounge and ANWB Golf. For now, the NGF competition is a great benchmark to see where I stand."

Advice for Fellow Players

Before we wrap up, Dyon has a clear message for all the other Olympus members competing in the NGF competition. "Want to win? Scout the course. Take notes. Build your own game plan. It really helps you stay one step ahead of your opponent." And then, with a grin: "Show no mercy. Grab your chances out there—and save the friendships for the clubhouse afterwards."
